Good evening, God bless you and welcome to our study tonight. Tonight we will be in Gen. chapter 32, as we follow Jacob on his journey home. And so, asking Wisdom, knowledge and guidance from the Father in the name of Jesus Christ, we begin.

Gen 33:1 And Jacob3290 lifted up5375 his eyes,5869 and looked,7200 and, behold,2009 Esau6215 came,935 and with5973 him four702 hundred3967 men.376 And he divided2673 (853) the children3206 unto5921 Leah,3812 and unto5921 Rachel,7354 and unto5921 the two8147 handmaids.8198

Separating his family whereby if he must loose some, he may not loose all of them.

Gen 33:3 And he1931 passed over5674 before6440 them, and bowed himself7812 to the ground776 seven7651 times,6471 until5704 he came near5066 to5704 his brother.251

Placing himself in the path of possible danger first. Wouldn't any good father and husband?? And this is the meeting he has feared for the entire journey.

Gen 33:4 And Esau6215 ran7323 to meet7125 him, and embraced2263 him, and fell5307 on5921 his neck,6677 and kissed5401 him: and they wept.1058

This is not at all what Jacob expected. A rather pleasant supprise I would say.

Gen 33:5 And he lifted up5375 (853) his eyes,5869 and saw7200 (853) the women802 and the children;3206 and said,559 Who4310 are those428 with thee? And he said,559 The children3206 which834 God430 hath graciously given2603 (853) thy servant.5650

Still being very respectfull to Esau.

Gen 33:6 Then the handmaidens8198 came near,5066 they2007 and their children,3206 and they bowed themselves.7812

And he has tought his children respect as well.

Gen 33:7 And Leah3812 also1571 with her children3206 came near,5066 and bowed themselves:7812 and after310 came Joseph near5066, 3130 and Rachel,7354 and they bowed themselves.7812

Showing off his family a bit now.

Gen 33:8 And he said,559 What4310 meanest thou by all3605 this2088 drove4264 which834 I met?6298 And he said,559 These are to find4672 grace2580 in the sight5869 of my lord.113

Just a small peace offering to you brother.

Gen 33:9 And Esau6215 said,559 I have3426 enough,7227 my brother;251 keep1961 that834 thou hast unto thyself.

I have enough, that is to say, "abundant". He is saying to Jacob that he has an abundance himself. In fact we will look at that word quickly. This is the word translated "enough" in this scripture.

H7227

רב

rab

rab

By contraction from H7231; abundant (in quantity, size, age, number, rank, quality): - (in) abound (-undance, -ant, -antly), captain, elder, enough, exceedingly, full, great (-ly, man, one), increase, long (enough, [time]), (do, have) many (-ifold, things, a time), ([ship-]) master, mighty, more, (too, very) much, multiply (-tude), officer, often [-times], plenteous, populous, prince, process [of time], suffice (-ient).

He had more than enough.

Gen 33:10 And Jacob3290 said,559 Nay,408 I pray thee,4994 if518 now4994 I have found4672 grace2580 in thy sight,5869 then receive3947 my present4503 at my hand:4480, 3027 for3588 therefore5921, 3651 I have seen7200 thy face,6440 as though I had seen7200 the face6440 of God,430 and thou wast pleased7521 with me.

This word used here for "God" by the way is the same one we looked at in the last chapter. Another thing to look at from the last chapter is the fact of this comparrison. Jacob said after the wresteling match:Gen 32:30 And Jacob3290 called7121 the name8034 of the place4725 Peniel:6439 for3588 I have seen7200 God430 face6440 to413 face,6440 and my life5315 is preserved.5337

And here as well, his life is preserved. Just something to think on.

Gen 33:11 Take,3947 I pray thee,4994 (853) my blessing1293 that834 is brought935 to thee; because3588 God430 hath dealt graciously2603 with me, and because3588 I have3426 enough.3605 And he urged6484 him, and he took3947 it.

And Jacob wins round one. Esau has accepted his gift and there appears to be no hard feelings.

Gen 33:12 And he said,559 Let us take our journey,5265 and let us go,1980 and I will go1980 before5048 thee.

Gen 33:13 And he said559 unto413 him, My lord113 knoweth3045 that3588 the children3206 are tender,7390 and the flocks6629 and herds1241 with young5763 are with5921 me: and if men should overdrive1849 them one259 day,3117 all3605 the flock6629 will die.4191

Jacob stating tht he cannot drive his company too hard, lest the young ones be killed from the journy, that Esau should go first so as not to be held up.

Gen 33:14 Let my lord,113 I pray thee,4994 pass over5674 before6440 his servant:5650 and I589 will lead on5095 softly,328 according as7272 the cattle4399 that834 goeth before6440 me and the children3206 be able to endure,7272 until5704, 834 I come935 unto413 my lord113 unto Seir.8165

Gen 33:15 And Esau6215 said,559 Let me now4994 leave3322 with5973 thee some of4480 the folk5971 that834 are with854 me. And he said,559 What4100 needeth it?2088 let me find4672 grace2580 in the sight5869 of my lord.113

Now we see some respect from Esau as well. And even offeres to leave some of his men with Jacob.

Gen 33:16 So Esau6215 returned7725 that1931 day3117 on his way1870 unto Seir.8165

Gen 33:17 And Jacob3290 journeyed5265 to Succoth,5523 and built1129 him a house,1004 and made6213 booths5521 for his cattle:4735 therefore5921, 3651 the name8034 of the place4725 is called7121 Succoth.5523

Sucoth meaning "booths"

Gen 33:18 And Jacob3290 came935 to Shalem,8003 a city5892 of Shechem,7927 which834 is in the land776 of Canaan,3667 when he came935 from Padan-aram;4480, 6307 and pitched his tent2583 (853) before6440 the city.5892

Gen 33:19 And he bought7069 (853) a parcel2513 of a field,7704 where834, 8033 he had spread5186 his tent,168 at the hand4480, 3027 of the children1121 of Hamor,2544 Shechem's7928 father,1 for a hundred3967 pieces of money.7192

Now this "Shechem" will be the object of a very interesting part of our study very soon. Keep your eyes on this one friends.

Gen 33:20 And he erected5324 there8033 an altar,4196 and called7121 it El-elohe-Israel.415

Again, calling on the Lord, just as his fathers had. This word "El-elohe-Israel" here is a nice one.

H415

אל אלהי ישׂראל

'e^l 'ĕlo^he^y yis´ra^'e^l

ale el-o-hay' yis-raw-ale'

From H410 and H430 and H3478; the mighty God of Jisrael; El Elohi Jisrael, the title given to a consecrated spot by Jacob: - El-elohe-israel.

Jacob is holding true to his word, he has made the Lord his God just as he said he would back in Gen 28. And this also ends our study for this evening, I hope you all have gotten something from it. May God bless you each and every one and remember always;

Study to show thyself approved.
