Welcome to tonight's study in Genesis chapter nine.  As always, asking wisdom, knowledge and understanding from the father, in the name of Jesus Christ, let's go with it.

Gen 9:1  And God⁴³⁰ blessed^{1288 (853)} Noah⁵¹⁴⁶ and his sons,¹¹²¹ and said⁵⁵⁹ unto them, Be fruitful,⁶⁵⁰⁹ and multiply,⁷²³⁵ and replenish^{4390 (853)} the earth.⁷⁷⁶

Gen 9:2  And the fear⁴¹⁷² of you and the dread²⁸⁴⁴ of you shall be¹⁹⁶¹ upon⁵⁹²¹ every³⁶⁰⁵ beast²⁴¹⁶ of the earth,⁷⁷⁶ and upon⁵⁹²¹ every³⁶⁰⁵ fowl⁵⁷⁷⁵ of the air,⁸⁰⁶⁴ upon all³⁶⁰⁵ that⁸³⁴ moveth⁷⁴³⁰ upon the earth,¹²⁷ and upon all³⁶⁰⁵ the fishes¹⁷⁰⁹ of the sea;³²²⁰ into your hand³⁰²⁷ are they delivered.⁵⁴¹⁴

Gen 9:3  Every³⁶⁰⁵ moving thing⁷⁴³¹ that⁸³⁴ liveth²⁴¹⁶ shall be¹⁹⁶¹ meat⁴⁰² for you; even as the green³⁴¹⁸ herb⁶²¹² have I given⁵⁴¹⁴ you ⁽⁸⁵³⁾ all things.³⁶⁰⁵

God has now allowed man to eat of the living creatures; Meat.  Until this time we were to eat fruit and vegetable matter.

Gen 9:4  But³⁸⁹ flesh¹³²⁰ with the life⁵³¹⁵ thereof, which is the blood¹⁸¹⁸ thereof, shall ye not³⁸⁰⁸ eat.³⁹⁸

In other words, DON'T EAT RAW MEAT.  It causes sickness.

Gen 9:5  And surely^{389 (853)} your blood¹⁸¹⁸ of your lives⁵³¹⁵ will I require;¹⁸⁷⁵ at the hand^{4480, 3027} of every³⁶⁰⁵ beast²⁴¹⁶ will I require¹⁸⁷⁵ it, and at the hand^{4480, 3027} of man;¹²⁰ at the hand^{4480, 3027} of every man's³⁷⁶ brother²⁵¹ will I require^{1875 (853)} the life⁵³¹⁵ of man.¹²⁰

Gen 9:6  Whoso sheddeth⁸²¹⁰ man's¹²⁰ blood,¹⁸¹⁸ by man¹²⁰ shall his blood¹⁸¹⁸ be shed:⁸²¹⁰ for³⁵⁸⁸ in the image⁶⁷⁵⁴ of God⁴³⁰ made⁶²¹³ he ⁽⁸⁵³⁾ man.¹²⁰

And thus God instituting the death penalty for murder.  But what man and mans brother was God speaking of??  Read on and we will find our answer.

Gen 9:7  And you,⁸⁵⁹ be ye fruitful,⁶⁵⁰⁹ and multiply;⁷²³⁵ bring forth abundantly⁸³¹⁷ in the earth,⁷⁷⁶ and multiply⁷²³⁵ therein.

Gen 9:8  And God⁴³⁰ spoke⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ Noah,⁵¹⁴⁶ and to⁴¹³ his sons¹¹²¹ with⁸⁵⁴ him, saying,⁵⁵⁹

Gen 9:9  And I,⁵⁸⁹ behold,²⁰⁰⁹ I establish^{6965 (853)} my covenant¹²⁸⁵ with⁸⁵⁴ you, and with⁸⁵⁴ your seed²²³³ after³¹⁰ you;

Gen 9:10  And with⁸⁵⁴ every³⁶⁰⁵ living²⁴¹⁶ creature⁵³¹⁵ that⁸³⁴ is with⁸⁵⁴ you, of the fowl,⁵⁷⁷⁵ of the cattle,⁹²⁹ and of every³⁶⁰⁵ beast²⁴¹⁶ of the earth⁷⁷⁶ with⁸⁵⁴ you; from all^{4480, 3605} that go out³³¹⁸ of the ark,⁸³⁹² to every³⁶⁰⁵ beast²⁴¹⁶ of the earth.⁷⁷⁶

Gen 9:11  And I will establish^{6965 (853)} my covenant¹²⁸⁵ with⁸⁵⁴ you; neither³⁸⁰⁸ shall all³⁶⁰⁵ flesh¹³²⁰ be cut off³⁷⁷² any more⁵⁷⁵⁰ by the waters^{4480, 4325} of a flood;³⁹⁹⁹ neither³⁸⁰⁸ shall there any more⁵⁷⁵⁰ be¹⁹⁶¹ a flood³⁹⁹⁹ to destroy⁷⁸⁴³ the earth.⁷⁷⁶

   Even so, some times we have to wander on this one, like last year in Galveston.

Gen 9:12  And God⁴³⁰ said,⁵⁵⁹ This²⁰⁶³ is the token²²⁶ of the covenant¹²⁸⁵ which⁸³⁴ I⁵⁸⁹ make⁵⁴¹⁴ between⁹⁹⁶ me and you and every³⁶⁰⁵ living²⁴¹⁶ creature⁵³¹⁵ that⁸³⁴ is with⁸⁵⁴ you, for perpetual⁵⁷⁶⁹ generations:¹⁷⁵⁵

This means Forever, throughout all generations, even in the English.

Gen 9:13  I do set^{5414 (853)} my bow⁷¹⁹⁸ in the cloud,⁶⁰⁵¹ and it shall be¹⁹⁶¹ for a token²²⁶ of a covenant¹²⁸⁵ between⁹⁹⁶ me and the earth.⁷⁷⁶

Gen 9:14  And it shall come to pass,¹⁹⁶¹ when I bring⁶⁰⁴⁹ a cloud⁶⁰⁵¹ over⁵⁹²¹ the earth,⁷⁷⁶ that the bow⁷¹⁹⁸ shall be seen⁷²⁰⁰ in the cloud:⁶⁰⁵¹

Gen 9:15  And I will remember^{2142 (853)} my covenant,¹²⁸⁵ which⁸³⁴ is between⁹⁹⁶ me and you and every³⁶⁰⁵ living²⁴¹⁶ creature⁵³¹⁵ of all³⁶⁰⁵ flesh;¹³²⁰ and the waters⁴³²⁵ shall no³⁸⁰⁸ more⁵⁷⁵⁰ become¹⁹⁶¹ a flood³⁹⁹⁹ to destroy⁷⁸⁴³ all³⁶⁰⁵ flesh.¹³²⁰

Gen 9:16  And the bow⁷¹⁹⁸ shall be¹⁹⁶¹ in the cloud;⁶⁰⁵¹ and I will look upon⁷²⁰⁰ it, that I may remember²¹⁴² the everlasting⁵⁷⁶⁹ covenant¹²⁸⁵ between⁹⁹⁶ God⁴³⁰ and every³⁶⁰⁵ living²⁴¹⁶ creature⁵³¹⁵ of all³⁶⁰⁵ flesh¹³²⁰ that⁸³⁴ is upon⁵⁹²¹ the earth.⁷⁷⁶

Gen 9:17  And God⁴³⁰ said⁵⁵⁹ unto⁴¹³ Noah,⁵¹⁴⁶ This²⁰⁶³ is the token²²⁶ of the covenant,¹²⁸⁵ which⁸³⁴ I have established⁶⁹⁶⁵ between⁹⁹⁶ me and all³⁶⁰⁵ flesh¹³²⁰ that⁸³⁴ is upon⁵⁹²¹ the earth.⁷⁷⁶

Long story short, when you see a rainbow in the sky, remember the promise that God made to Noah.

Gen 9:18  And the sons¹¹²¹ of Noah,⁵¹⁴⁶ that went forth³³¹⁸ of⁴⁴⁸⁰ the ark,⁸³⁹² were¹⁹⁶¹ Shem,⁸⁰³⁵ and Ham,²⁵²⁶ and Japheth:³³¹⁵ and Ham²⁵²⁶ is the father¹ of Canaan.³⁶⁶⁷

Now we need to pay attention to this.  They just got off the ark and we have it pointed out that Han is the father of Canaaon.  And Canaan isn't even born yet.  We need to keep our eyes open when we got to that one.

Gen 9:19  These⁴²⁸ are the three⁷⁹⁶⁹ sons¹¹²¹ of Noah:⁵¹⁴⁶ and of them^{4480, 428} was the whole³⁶⁰⁵ earth⁷⁷⁶ overspread.⁵³¹⁰

Gen 9:20  And Noah⁵¹⁴⁶ began²⁴⁹⁰ to be an husbandman,^{376, 127} and he planted⁵¹⁹³ a vineyard:³⁷⁵⁴

Gen 9:21  And he drank⁸³⁵⁴ of⁴⁴⁸⁰ the wine,³¹⁹⁶ and was drunken;⁷⁹³⁷ and he was uncovered¹⁵⁴⁰ within⁸⁴³² his tent.¹⁶⁸  

The first thing Noah does is to plant a vineyard, make wine and get drunk.  Some kind of action for a man who had just had his entire familly saved by the hand of God.  But there he was, drunk and passed out.

Gen 9:23  And Shem⁸⁰³⁵ and Japheth³³¹⁵ took^{3947 (853)} a garment,⁸⁰⁷¹ and laid⁷⁷⁶⁰ it upon⁵⁹²¹ both⁸¹⁴⁷ their shoulders,⁷⁹²⁶ and went¹⁹⁸⁰ backward,³²² and covered^{3680 (853)} the nakedness⁶¹⁷² of their father;¹ and their faces⁶⁴⁴⁰ were backward,³²² and they saw⁷²⁰⁰ not³⁸⁰⁸ their father's¹ nakedness.⁶¹⁷²

Now I have a question.  Is it a sin to see your fathers naked body??   No it is not.   Lets look at this word for "saw".

  This can be several things, depending on the context in which it is written Just keep that in mind as we read on.

Gen 9:24  And Noah⁵¹⁴⁶ awoke³³⁶⁴ from his wine,^{4480, 3196} and knew^{3045 (853)} what⁸³⁴ his younger⁶⁹⁹⁶ son¹¹²¹ had done⁶²¹³ unto him.

Noah had sobered up.  the word for awoke is fairly simple meaning just that.  The word for Wine:

From an unused root meaning to effervesce; wine (as fermented); by implication intoxication: - banqueting, wine, wine [-bibber].

He had been drunk, he sobered up.  simple.              But what is this that his younger son has done to him??

Gen 9:25  And he said,⁵⁵⁹ Cursed⁷⁷⁹ be Canaan;³⁶⁶⁷ a servant⁵⁶⁵⁰ of servants⁵⁶⁵⁰ shall he be¹⁹⁶¹ unto his brethren.²⁵¹

Gen 9:26  And he said,⁵⁵⁹ Blessed¹²⁸⁸ be the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ God⁴³⁰ of Shem;⁸⁰³⁵ and Canaan³⁶⁶⁷ shall be¹⁹⁶¹ his servant.⁵⁶⁵⁰

Gen 9:27  God⁴³⁰ shall enlarge⁶⁶⁰¹ Japheth,³³¹⁵ and he shall dwell⁷⁹³¹ in the tents¹⁶⁸ of Shem;⁸⁰³⁵ and Canaan³⁶⁶⁷ shall be¹⁹⁶¹ his servant.⁵⁶⁵⁰

Now I have heard it taught that this is where the black race came into existence.  And I will say that that is A CROCK.  God has not cursed a race of people and changed the color of their skin because of the actions of one individual.

Gen 9:29  And all³⁶⁰⁵ the days³¹¹⁷ of Noah⁵¹⁴⁶ were¹⁹⁶¹ nine⁸⁶⁷² hundred³⁹⁶⁷ and fifty²⁵⁷² years:⁸¹⁴¹ and he died.⁴¹⁹¹

and I guess Noah did not beget sons and daughters after this. Read over it again.

Now lets take a long look at the nakedness of ones father.

Lev 18:8  The nakedness⁶¹⁷² of thy father's¹ wife⁸⁰² shalt thou not³⁸⁰⁸ uncover:¹⁵⁴⁰ it¹⁹³¹ is thy father's¹ nakedness.⁶¹⁷²

So; what had the younger son of Noah done to him??  The nakedness of your fathers wife is your fathers nakedness.  This is why Noah was so mad, not because his son had caught him with the covers down as he slept.
